Summary
A Democratic Gov't formed after WWI, its first Chancellor was Friedrich Ebert until 1925. The Weimar Republic had to major challenges. The first was the Spartacist Uprising of 1919. It was led by Karl Liebkecht and Rosa Luxemburg who turned socialist group, Spartakists League into German Communist Party. They tired to take over Berlin in January 1919, but were brutally put down by the Freikorps. In the end they were murdered. The second challenge was The Kapp Putsch of 1920, Wolfgang Kapp was to march on Berlin in March 1920. The German army could not stop them because of their limitations on their army casued by the treaty of Versailles. The only was to stop them was for the German workers to strike. The Weimar Republic suffered from hyper Inflation. It was caused by the need to pay reparations, unemployment and refusal of workers to work in Ruhr region. It lead to French occupation of Region in 1923 and New Reichsmark.
