Summary
Deng Xiaoping wants Taiwan to join China and tells them that they would still have autonomy. This does not end up happening, however, trade does increases between them. In 1987 Taiwan allows travel to the mainland. Deng pushes for reunification of Hong Kong which ends up happening in 1997 and becomes a SAR. There are many economic changes that occur when Deng comes into power. These include: agricultural reforms, farmers to seel on the open market and contracing of plots of lands. China joins the IMF and the World Bank.
