“In your opinion, did the Bay of Pigs or Cuban Missile Crisis have anything to do with the Kennedy assassination?”
There are many different conspiracy theories on why Kennedy was assassinated. Many people still to this day do not believe what the US government has to say about the assassination. The most plausable theory however, is that he was killed because of the Bay of Pigs invasion. The revolution begun when Cuba became a communist state. Through out this revolution the CIA and mobs in Cuba came together to revolt against the Communist government. This occured at the Bay of Pigs where they were left without the airforce help of Kennedy as he has promised. They were either killed or taken prisoner. This angered the CIA because it made them look bad. It angered the mobs because they were no longer able to take back their wealth that was taken by the communist government. Both these groups were furious with Kennedy. Not only did they both have the power kill him, they also had the ability to cover it up. Considering the facts, my opinion lies with the Bay of Pigs invasion being the main reason Kennedy was assassinated.

“What attempts did the USA make to stop the spread of communism worldwide during the 1950s? What was this process known as?”
Into the 1950's the USA still feared the spread of Communism across the world. In 1952, Dwight E. Eisenhower became president and begun the Eisenhower Doctrine to try to stop Communism. This Doctrine was very similar to the Truman Doctrine. Eisenhower declared "to secure and protect the territorial integrity and political independence of such nations, requesting such aid against over armed aggression from any nation controlled by international communism." This begun the Doctrine of Containment which included; OAS, ANZUS, SEATO, and Cento. During this time in America, people were going crazy. They are feared the spread of Communism. This fear is what started McCarthyism. Americans were suspicious of Communism that may be coming from within America. Witchhunts begun and were being led by Senator Joseph McCarthy. This started the period of Paranoia. People were being accused of being communists and once you were wrongfully accused it was near impossbile to prove you weren't. The suggestion of guilt ruined many peoples lives. “What attempts did the USA make to stop the spread of communism in Europe from 1945-1950? What was this process known as?”
In attmpt to stop the spread of Communism the USA introduced the Truman Doctrine and the Marshall Plan. The Truman Doctrine and the Marshall Plan displayed to the rest of the world that the US would provide political, military and economic help to stop them from turning to Communism. The Truman Doctrine became the mantra for American policy for stopping the spread of Communism throughout the world. It was set forth by the US president, Harry Truman. This was the "line in the sand" for the spread of communism. The Truman Doctrine included pledging 400 mil dollars to Greece and Turkey to ensure that they don't turn to Communism. The Marshall Plan was proposed by George C Marshall, secretary of state, to help to rebuild western Europe. There were sixteen nations who applied for this aid that would be handed out over 4 years. By doing this, the US limited the expansion of Communism. This plan was created to help rebuild war-affected areas, make Europe prosperous again and modernize it. Both plans were designed to help limit the spread of Communism, however, they both played different roles in how the US stopped the spread of Communism. This process was called containment. |
