"Describe the challenges Lenin faced immediately after the Russia Civil War and the power struggle that existed after Lenin's death. In your opinion, did Stalin modernize Russia?"
Lenin faced many challenges after the Russia Civil War. At first, in the summer of 1918 war communism was instituted. He realized by 1921 that war communism was not going to cause enough recovery. Upon coming to this realization he brought in the New Economic Policy. This new policy changed some of the rules that were established in war communism. Some of these rules consisted of; some private trade was now allowed, peasants could sell surplus and small factories could be purchased by a co-operative for private ownership. Parts of the economy began to recover under this policy. When Lenin died in Jan 1924, after he died there was a power struggle in Russia between Stalin and Trotsky. It was known as the "Guns or Butter" debate. Stalin wanted a heavy industry and and Trotsky wanted consumer goods. This debate lasted for 3 years and at then end Stalin was successful. He had Trotsky expelled from the Soviet Union, later to be put of trial for treason in abstentina and finally in 1940, hunted down and assassinated with an ice pick in Mexico City. In my opinion, Stalin did modernize Russia, but some of his goals were too harsh. He set targets that were beyond impossible to reach which resulted in people using shortcuts to meet the tragets. In the end, this ended up helping Russia to become the country they are today.

"DESCRIBE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE FEB./MARCH REVOLUTION AND THE OCT./NOV. REVOLUTIONS? WHY WAS THE LATTER SUCCESSFUL?"
The first major difference between the Feb/ March Revolution and the Oct/ Nov Revolutions was obviously the time of the year they took place in, one in February and one in October. The Feb Revolution was to try to get the Tsar to abdicate. They rioted and striked hoping that the Tsar would be replaced with a provisional government. The Oct Revolution was known as the Communist Revolution. This was the overthrow of the Provisional Government of Russia. The latter (Oct Revolution) was successful. The reason the latter was successful was becasue they had the Kronstadt Mutiny. This Mutiny consisted of 20 000 armed sailers that took control of Petrograd and demanded Soviet power. The uprising in Petrograd was led by Lenin and it was bloodless. There was one blank shot fired at the Winter Palace by Cruiser Auora and that was the end of the Oct Revolution. The Bolshevicks were victorious because they were being led by Trotsky who was on the military side of things and they were central in Russia. Enemy at the Gates is a movie based on the horrific events that occured during the Battle of Stalingrad between Russia and Germany. The two countires fought for every inch of Staligrad with the belief that if Staligrad fell the world would fall. The Russian were commiting a suicide mission against the Germans because they Germans were much more equiped for war than Russia was. The Germans had machine guns and tanks while the Russians only had a gun for half of the soldiers, the other half got a handful of bullets. Jude Law who plays Vassili in the movie ends up gettting only a handful of bullets which is not what he was hoping for. We saw him at the begining of the movie with his grandfather and knew from then that he was very good with a gun. In the heat of battle, he kills five Germans, and is noticed by Danilov, the political officer assigned to his unit. Him and Danilov both fall in love with the same woman, Tanya, who Vasilli ends up being with. Throughout the movie Vasilli and a German sniper play cat and mouse, resulting in a win by Vasilli. Russia wins the Battle of Stalingrad.
