What were Hitler's steps in his rise to power?
Hitler's steps in his rise to power were greatly influenced by Mussolini's actions. Hitler watched as Mussolini used violence and intimidation to rise his was into power. Hitler liked what he saw and followed a very similar way of doing things. Hitler's first stops to power were the burning og the Reichstag in 1933. Despite his doing, Dutch communists were 'convicted of the crime.' Hitler bulllied (with the help of the Brownshirts) the Reichstag into passing the enabiling act to face the coming 'communist revolution.' This allowed Hitler to pass laws without consulting the Reichstag. At first President Hindenburg refused to give Hitler Chancellorship, however after the Reichstag fire Hindenburg chooses Hitler as Chancellor as a tool against Communist. He later formed the Gestapo (secret police) to ensure that he will rise to power. His final step was the Night of the Long Knives. He declared the Shutzstaffel (S.S.) had conducted the murders proudly and was congradulated by Hindenburg. Soon after Hindenburg died and an 'election' was held which voted Hitler in as President.

What were the challenges that the Weimar Republic faced in the first years of its existence? What were the steps that Mussolini took to rise to power in Italy?
The Weimar Republic faced two challenges in the first year of its existance. The Spartakis Uprising in 1919. It was led by Karl Liebknecht and Rosa Luxembourg and turned the Spartakists League into a German Comminist Party. They tried to take over Berlin in January 1919, but were brutually put down by the Freikorps. The second challenge was the Kapp Putsch in 1920. Putsch stand for the overthrow of a government. The Freikorps, who previosly shut down Liebknecht and Luxemburg, get rid of the republic government. The Wolfgang Kapp marched on Berlin in March 1920. Since the Germany army was so small because of the Treaty of Versailles, the only way to stop them was for the workers to strike and stop everything, electricity, water, etc. This was done to ssave the Weimar Republic and it was called the general strike. The first step that Mussolini took to rise the power in Italy was the March on Rome. King Emmanuel III refused to sign an emergancy legislation to prevent it allowing Mussolini to come to power. The second thing he did was called the Lateran Accords of 1929. The only thing that could prevent Mussolini from coming into power was the Catholic Church. It was the most powerful remaining body in Italy. Fearing Mussolini's wrath Pope Pius XI signed a deal, it gave the Church: control over religious education in schools, recognition as the state religion and the right for the Pope to rule his own state known as the Vatican. In return, Mussolinin got the recognition by the Church as the legitimate leader. The movie "Life is beautiful" starts out in Italy in the 1930's. Guido is a carefree book store keeper who falls inlove with woman, named Dora from a nearby town. She claims how she loves running into him randomly, so he sets up 'random' times that he runs into her. Eventually he askes her to marry him. Guido and Dora and thier son live happily together until the Germans took control of Italy and sent all Jewish people to a concentration camp. Originally, Dora was not taken away with Guido and her son, so she argued her way onto the train. In order for Guido to keep his son from really finding out what is happening he tell him that it is a game. Each day everybody will gain points and the first person to get to 1000 points wins a real life tank. This game is the reason that Joshua, the son, did not die along with this uncle and all the other kids. In the end, Guido ends up getting himself killed so that his son can live. When Joshua knows that no one is left on the camp site he leaves his hiding spot and next thing you know, a US tanks rolls around the corner. The US soldier picks him and and he gets to ride in the tanks, giving him 100% validity about the game. While driving down in the US tank, he is reunited with his mom and happily explains to her how they won.
